SSASS - Singing Sad and Silly Songs - Voice, Breath and Sound - MS Centre Southwick

Fridays from 11:00 to 12:00

- usually followed by a lot of laughing, chatting and tea with cake.

* We start with breath, voice and Qi exercises having fun while deepening our breathing and relaxing our voice, body and mind. The work aims to raise energy levels, enhance fine motor skills, left/right coordination and mental alertness. Research shows that this kind of work effects a number of areas in the brain, which are responsible for mobility and sensory output as well as mood.
* The class has become increasingly popular and we now feel quite adventurous and creative in what and how we sing. In December 2009 we had our first performance at the Christmas Lunch party. Alan Taylor, who runs the centre, is a Jazz musician and we hope to rope him in for our next performance.

Come along and SSASS it out

* The work will be tailored to the needs of the participants. Being based on an holistic approach, the underlying principle is that of allowing ourselfs to always be beginners.
* Major points of the work will be working with breath and posture to open the free flow of Qi (Energy). We will be using breath and qi exercises as well as working with vowels.
* We will be playing with learning melodies by ear and improvising in an easy way. We will learn some songs and practise to sing our own tune alongside other peoples tunes.

Having a voice is a gift.
While speaking our truth is considered an important right,
taking to singing out our joy, hope and grief is often experienced as immeasurably more liberating.
To sing is to grasp the precious opportunity to weave together, in new and surprising ways, the threads of our innermost being. Doing so we embark on an adventure, an exploration of deeper, true self.
Singing can lead us onto a pathway to creativity, authenticity and joyfulness. This way healing lies.

Find out how to use your voice with ease and joy and begin the journey.

Shiatsu classes and workshops for Beginners

The classes are usually run as 8-session blocks and provide the participants with the basic theoretical and philosophical understanding and the practical skills needed to treat family and friends with the aim to improve wellbeing or ease minor discomfort, stress and strain.

Beginners classes and workshops constitute a foundation training for those who may wish to study Shiatsu to a professional level, are interested in studying Acupuncture or simply wish to understand more about their own condition by looking at the holistic approach to health that is the basis of Oriental medicine in general.

Learning the location and function of points and meridians and exploring the nature and flow of Qi to a deeper level can also help students of the Martial Arts and TaiChiQiGong to improve their practice.

Due to the nature of the work, a minimum number of sechs participants is required for a class/workshop to run.
